What does intelligence do?

Hi, I just got a t6 ring with a decent amount of intelligence for my level. but is it worth getting rid of a little bit of vitality? 33 int vs 13 vitality and way more resistance in the ring, but more importantly, what does intelligence itself do? Thanks ahead of time.
