stones..upgrades

HOw can I used the stones to upgrade an item ...just downloaded this game a week ago... please help..

U need to upgrade with gold first till u reach the items limit. After u hit the limit, u will get the option to increase max level of the item. This is the moment u use the stones.

I don't know about the lower tier items, but my tier 14 and 15 epic swords went to level 80. After that, i can raise the levels by 5 with stones.
