Combine to upgrade... what happened?

I used to get at least one or two successful combinations of items to upgrade but now it's not working for me for such a long time. I lost a lot of Epic and Legendary items for nothing. To get a Unique item, this option sucks big time. I'm annoyed.
Might as well play. Maybe I'll get something. A white hair..
